VR-Shipmodel 'MS Schwerin' "MS Schwerin"

This project is a cooperation of the DSR-Seeleute e.V. and ITnB-Development. Its goal is to create an internet-based virtual
naval museum that will contain highly detailed 3D models of german ships, starting with a freightship of the Deutsche Seereederei
Rostock - the MS Schwerin. Visitors will be able to vitually walk it´s decks and get technical and maritime background information
related to the part of the ship they´re on at that moment. The museum is scheduled to open it´s virtual doors in the second half of 2005.
The current state of development as well as some tips concerning navigation with and konfiguration of the 3D plugin can be found in the project´s forum.
The whole project can be roughly split up into three main parts:
I. 3D Walkthrough more >>
II. 360° Panorama View more >>
III. Shipmuseum more >>
I. Realtime 3D walkthrough
In this realtime 3D walkthrough, visitors can walk freely on the virtual decks of the MS Schwerin.
Since the ship´s model is built true to scale, you get the impression of actually being onboard of the ship.
The image of whole ship is being rendered in real time on the user´s PC according to his/her camera movements.
The ship´s model is being built based on plans, photographies and memories of former seamen.
There are two versions of the 3D model that are currently being built:
- a model that can be displayed in real time for the interactive walkthrough
- a more complex and high detailed model for animation sequences and close-up views.
We are looking for any kind of information about this type of ship. So if any of you heppen to have any plans, photos and/or
drawings of this particular ship, we would greatly appreciate your help.
Even pictures that show only parts of the ship in the background can help to reconstruct details like ventilation-folds, for instance.
We are delivering the current state of this project in different formats.
Note that using the latest version of the Microsoft Internet Explorer is highly recommended.
Any needed plugins will be installed automatically on the first time you start the viewer,
which takes a single download of about 1.5 MB.

Walk the ship in 800x600 >> (4 MB)
Important notice: The graphical quality of realtime models strongly depends on the kind of hardware you are using!
This is how it should look like: #1, #2
If you would like to contribute to this project or just want to know how things are developing, please register at our
forum and join the community.
There are more pictures and realtime scenes inside. To avoid misuse and spam, you are required to register.
Your data will never be used for any other purpose than user authentification.

II. Animated Movie, 360° Panoramas
We are going to use the model to create several pictures, 360° panoramas and a short animated movie.
News on this subject will folllow as soon as the model is kompleted and this part of the project is getting closer to realization.
A few examples can already be seen by klicking on the small pictures in the upper left section of this screen. Some examples for 360° panoramas:
- Stand 02/05 >> (Velle Luke IV, 3 MB)
- Stand 01/05 >> (between WHI und WHII, 6 MB)
- Stand 01/05 >> (Velle Luke IV, 3 MB)
To watch the panoramas, you need the latest version of the Apple Quicktime Player.

III. Naval museum
This is the final stage of our project, which enables the visitor to switch to the 'walkthrough mode'. You can
walk on the MS Schwerin and get information about the different locations of the ship. We are currently working
on a prototype that can soon be found in our forum. If you are interested in this project and/or would like to
contribute to it in any way, you are more than welcome.
